They Came with Nothing is the
first documentary tribute to Holocaust survivors. After suffering the horrors
of the Holocaust, the survivors had to begin their lives all over again after
being liberated. The soldiers said they are free, but yet they did not have a
penny to their names, nor homes to return to. Mostly the young survived, most
of whom where small children when the Nazi's forced them out of their homes and
into concentration camps, thus cutting off their formal education. Still they
forged forward in unfamiliar lands, not knowing the local languages yet taking
whatever jobs they could get. Many came to America
to seek a new life far from horrors of Europe and their tormentors. They asked
for nothing more than an honest day's wages for their hard work and over time
built their own empires, be it a business empire or more commonly, a modest
home with a dream to send their children to a safe school and perhaps college.
In the process, the Holocaust survivors won their own battles against the
Nazis, first surviving the Nazi concentration and death camps, and later as a
living testimony to defeating the Nazis in their own way. These are the stores
of the people who came with nothing. |
